Learning to thrive and survive in business
In episode 181 of The Executive Edge podcast, I talk to Canadian business consultant and coach Matthew Sanjari. After a life-changing accident that led to disability, chronic pain and depression, Matthew set out to establish himself as a serial entrepreneur and help people with their business journey.Having previously worked in marketing and real estate, Matthew founded PRIME consulting to empower entrepreneurs and business leaders through coaching and consulting. On the show Matthew discusses questions of mindset, attitude, personal accountability and strategic thinking. In many ways, he gives an insight into the mental chains he broke through as he set off on his own entrepreneurial journey. With clarity and passion, Matthew discusses the challenges he faced, the conversations he had with himself, and the questions he asked himself as he sought to make his business more sustainable. In doing so, he gives the listener an insight into the kind of thinking we could or should do when we are caught up in running a business. The key here is that Matthew was very cognisant from the get-go that he didn't want to be another burnout entrepreneur; instead, he set out to make sure he was running the business and that it wasn't running him.To that end, Matthew encourages listeners to automate, delegate, and eliminate!!I also liked the way Matthew talks about the way he sees himself as being both a consultant and a coach. As a consultant, his eye is clearly on helping businesses reach "peak efficiency"; as a coach, he looks to help entrepreneurs find the right way forward. It's an interesting distinction and one that I think sometimes gets lost amidst all the "be better, be bigger" discourse that goes around in business circles. Sometimes what's best for the business isn't the best thing for us personally.
