What travel really gives young people

When a young person says "I'm going travelling," two things tend to happen at once.

As a parent, a quiet flicker of panic. Will they be safe? Will they cope?

As an employer, something quite different. Because the qualities we spend a fortune trying to build in our people, resilience, adaptability, the ability to think on their feet, are exactly the qualities a year away tends to forge.

We just don't always recognise them when they walk back through the door.

Later this week I'm releasing a new ebook in conjunction with my researcher Georgina Murrin on what travel really gives young people, and why we should let them go.

It's a subject close to my heart, and I think it might change how you read the next CV that crosses your desk.

Keep an eye out. More to come.
